An elevating experience for those who love elephants and have not visited any elephant sanctuary before. The short documentary at the sanctuary highlighted the struggles of both the elephants who are separated from their herd as well as risks faced by the trans-location team at this sanctuary.
Needless to say, the ever present human elephant conflict deserves closer attention from both authorities and key players in plantation industry given the overlapping interests of both humans and elephants in an ever shrinking forest habitat. It is indeed sad to watch elephants die from the stress of trans-location as much as they pose a threat when confronted by plantation workers or rangers.
These highly intelligent animals deserve all the support and help to re-adjust to their new environment. Towards this end the sanctuary plays its limited role in its current set up and provides a safe close up to the average visitor of the struggles in the life of an elephant as well as the ranger. The simple act of feeding an elephant can be very appealing to little children as well as to adults who love elephants. Beyond that one can indulge in some playtime with the baby elephants during their daily bath in a near by stream. |
