This small town used to produce charcoal, but it was later developed as a small port by the British during the Straits Settlement period. Port Dickson was also known as Tanjung. In the Malay language, that means "cape". The oldest shophouses were the four situated presently at Jalan Lama. There was also a carbon mine at the first mile of the coast road (Jalan Pantai), and therefore Port Dickson was also called "Arang" (charcoal) in the Malay language.

Tin ore was plentiful in Lukut, an area within the Port Dickson district, during the 1820s, and it attracted Chinese immigrant miners. The British considered the area to have great potential as a harbour. It was intended to supersede the port in Pengkalan Kempas. The in-charge officer's name was Dickson, and thereafter the town was named Port Dickson. Others claim that Sir John Frederick Dickson, colonial sectary,[1] a senior official of the Federated Malay States founded Port Dickson and Pulau Arang in 1889.[2]

Port Dickson evolved into a busy trading centre. Railways were constructed to facilitate the growth and development of Port Dickson. Although Port Dickson experienced rapid development, the beautiful beaches are fairly well preserved. Now, Port Dickson has become not only a beautiful tourist destination, but a large municipality with about 524,076 residents.
Ten Mile Beach - Port Dickson,A great place to swim, relax and watch the sunset.
This can either be a must see activity tip or an accomodation tip.

The Avillion Village Resort could be added to the must see places in PD, even if its just for a short look-see visit. As PD's only resort build almost entirely on stilts, the ambience and view from its reception area to its resort is quite interesting. While here, check out the various displays of Negeri Sembilan culture and tradition stuffs scattered all over the resort, such as the bullock cart and the musical instruments for Cak Lempong.
Avillion Village Resort:Another resort on stilts is currently under cosntruction in PD but I doubt it will be as interesting as Avillion Village Resort.
The beautiful West Coast resort town of Port Dickson, Negeri Sembilan has now been further graced by a unique and magnificent attraction on Ostrich Show Farm. Located only 1.5 hours drive from Kuala Lumpur, our Show Farm is located on the 9th mile of the Port Dickson coastal road.
The mini zoo is run by the Tiara Beach Resort... It has a limited collection of ostriches, pheasants, camels, crocodiles, donkeys, horses and snakes - to name a few... Visitors can take rides on donkey carts and donkeys as well... There are also special snake performances on Sundays and Public Holidays.
